Genre/Influences: Dark-electro, EBM.
Content: M.O.D. is an Italian duo consisting of Maryhell (vocals, lyrics, music) Angie Vhelena (music). The duo has been active for a few years now, having self-released a demo and a single. They’ve now released their debut full length “Le Dios Mecanische” by the digital net label Gothic World Records.
This album features 15 songs mainly dealing with dark-electronic music. M.O.D. sometimes reminds me of the haunting atmospheres and power of Hocico while Maryhell’s way of singing sometimes sounds like Jennifer Parkin (Ayria) singing over dark-electronics. The mix between dark and haunting electronics on one side and a female singer –who’s not singing the typical enraged and heavy distorted format, on the other side, is quite fascinating.
Musically, this formation surprises me by a rather elaborated and well-crafted composition. The majority of the songs are quite long in duration but you never feel like it starts to bore you. The album features next to several new songs different updated versions/mixes of ‘older’ tracks. I have to say that this would be more alluring if a few songs were a little less repetitive or if some songs were in a ‘shorter duration’ mix, but overall this album reveals a huge potential. M.O.D. main goal will be to catch the attention of a wider audience.
It seems that they already got the opportunity in their homeland to open as support act for several famous bands in the genre. I think they’ve the image (a rather typical cyber-goth look), but still an interesting sound.
Conclusion: I can’t say that M.O.D. will be the newest sensation in dark-electroland, but this album reveals a very efficient and well-conceived sound. This is a band to keep an eye on.
Best songs: “Le Dios Mecanische”, “Psychic Trap”, “Es La Hora Electronica”, “Toleranz Null (Alien In Deiner Welt)”.
Rate: (DP:7/8)DP
